Wie oft gibt's in Wien schon Chicks die aussehen wie die Blonde aus "Crocodile Dundee" (ja, die mit dem geilen Stringtanga-Arsch am Fluss!), dazu auf der Bühne ihre Titten zeigen und ihre Homies nackt ans Kreuz nageln? Eben. Chance verpasst! Die gute Nachricht: Madchen Brunner hat Jesse Darlin' kurz vor ihrer Abreise im quartier21/MQ getroffen, sie über ihre Kunst ausgequetscht und an ihr ein bisschen rumgefummelt. Die schlechte Nachricht: Die Performancekünstlerin und Muse 2.0 kommt erst in ein paar Monaten wieder nach Wien.

 How did you become a performance artist?
Actually I hate performance artists. You know the joke? How many performance artists does it take to change a light bulb? Answer is: I dunno. I left. I cut my teeth by hoofing the boards, playing the queer cabaret stages, dancing at clubs, clowning in the circus.

What is your work about?
It's about a lot of things. Whatever I'm obsessing about at any given time. I'm always looking for something real in an unreal world. And I won't be told what's real. I have to find it out for myself. That's why I do it.

Lady Schmuck, the band-aid queen.

What the hell is experimental living exactly?
It's a joke, but if you ask me to explain the punch line, it's the practise of living "out loud," as Emile Zola put it, of being professionally human in the age of the machine. And never thinking that you've done everything there is to do (I have to remind myself about this one all the time).

With whom are you working and why?
I'm working with mediatrix performer n3rd-grrrl Sister0, who's my geek mentor and my partner in crime. She taught me everything I know ;). I'd like to work with Eric Binder, too, who's a crazy Slovakian art-star who's not afraid of anything and who loves what he does and doesn't question it (we need more of them). I do a bit of stuff with the Graffiti Research Labs, and of course I'm working with my wonderful ladies in the band, who are making midi-symphonic pop nightmares that bake my musical cookie like nothing I've ever done before.

Why do you love to show your boobs on stage?
Everybody wants to show their boobs on stage. They tell you otherwise, they're lying.

Why have you been to vienna?
I was artist-in-residence with wicked digi-visceral insubordinate art tribe monochrom, but they're local superstars so you'll know all about them already. They rock. I'd like to work with them more.

What really sucks in vienna?
It's so /clean, /man.

What's really cool about it?
The butterfish sushi, which is like the first time you ever had an orgasm. The coffee culture. The fact that everyone's really into new things all the time; London and Amsterdam (current residence and old hometown) are both so blasé.

Do you think you're special?
Oh, undoubtedly. Incomparable.

What do you think about fashion, starlets, bobos, lifestyle, YSL, gucci and stuff?
Participate, don't consume: those who buy the product at point of sale are half-dead suckers and the reason that youth culture is so fucking boring, but the folks out there doing it are just doing their thang or making a buck or living the dream, and there ain't nothing wrong with that.

You are reclaiming pop for the people - do you really have to do this?
It's a dirty job, but /somebody's /got to do it.
