In India it's common knowledge that dark-skinned girls (and guys) won't get married, won't get promoted, and won't do anything but be a gross peasant sub-human -- unless they make their skin look whiter! Big cosmetics companies like L'Oreal and Pond's have skin-lightening creams on the market, but it's the cheaper products (the ones that promise quicker results) which are more affordable to the poorer, usually darker-skinned people of India. These products often contain mercury and chemicals that lighten your skin but also mutilate your kidney, riddle you with cancer and mangle your brain (not a good look). Indian girls: GET OVER IT and realise that your luscious, dark skin is H.O.T. It's the facial hair you need to worry about.
That is insane. It's like bottled racism.

That's fucking crap. This skin lightening is a wide spread self-image problem. It goes on in many African countries also. I wonder who's idea that dark brown and black skin is ugly?

Well, you see white people burning their skin in the UV radiation all the time. And I wouldn't be so sure that the self-tannig creams are that safe either. So the other wants to be darker, the other half whiter. Go figure.

OMG a minority wants me to whiter? RACISM!!!!!!1! SELF HAAAAAAAAAATE.
But when a white person wants a tan: "yeah do it, being pastey is gross..."
Typical double standard.
Fair skin is seen as beautiful. Its been this way for thousands of years in many different cultures. I agree that putting mercury laden crap over yourself is bullshit (as is tanning), but I think having a preference for lighter or darker skin isnt. its just a preference.

Speaking of products marketed to make you feel inferior; did anyone ever see those advertisements by philips for male bodyhair trimmers where they they asked 100 women if they liked "excessive body hair on men"?. Apparently 80% didnt, but using the word "excessive" implies too much to begin with. Way to be manipulative cocks, philips. And just think; 20% of girls still like "excessive" body hair.
I really cant wait for the age of the meterosexual to officially die so men can stop feeling bad that they dont look like androgenus 13 year old boys... and we'll see the end of these new "anti-aging creams for men" that are packaged in MANLY metalic blue containers with "FOR MEN" printed all over it so heterosexuals dont feel like complete fags when they're seen buying it.

The dark skin aversion as I've heard (from some Asians)is about social status commonly.
As in "Poor folks work in the fields and get dark from the sun, wealthy do not."
This is important in places where marriages are arranged. Note the Asian women that walk around in the summer with umbrellas whether here in the states or in Asia itself.

Indian girls with dark skin are totally hot. The complexion tones featured in those commercials, before the product is used, are already lightened from the usual. Of course too dark, fuck that.

tbf this is common social behaviour. the lighter skinned reggae artist (sean 'da' paul) gets more coverage and fame than his darker-skinned peers.
olive-mediterranean-skinned chaps get more pussy than pale british motherfuckers and now this shit with indians lightening their skin.
there's clearly one shade to be and that's light-brown!!!!!!!
then you win!!!!

I'm extremely pale and get shit for it all the time. I will, however, be laughing my head off when I still look young and all my peers have wrinkles and age spots all over their chest, hands, and face.

On December 21st, 2012, this shit'll be as meaningful as the New York Facts of Life Episode where dude has the "Holy-shit-I'm-a survivor-of-the-Holocaust" tattoo. Problem is, not long after, everyone forgot about it because they started selling toys and shit. George Clooney is H.O.T. and I'm fucking O.L.D. Goodnight.

Malts, asshole, not toys.
Whatever.
My names Jason, too, so fuck it.

African men and women use these skin-lightening products excessively.
They have even been banned in Gambia and Senegal, I think.

I'm white and I'm attracted to girls with darker skin tones. I actually hate being white! Sometimes I want to flirt with girls who have darker skin but I can't because I have an inferiority complex about being white. Don't I suck?

Mirja, it's not a "preference" if people make you fell bad about your natural color. White is considered to be the standard hence the idead of "colored" people, but in fact more people are brown then White.

Some people automatically perceives that ones desire for a lighter or white skin is a self-image problem. I even heard someone from other forum mentioning BDD or body dismorphic disorder. People can only speculate but even if it is an issue of multi-cultural or social status symbol, we should also realize that its not the same in all cases. Most people may never understand but people wants something to achieve in order to achieve that inner joy or happines. It may be a cause of having a white skin, or whatever reason you may long for. Point is, you need to match what you feel inside to the outside in order to achieve that completeness. There actually products that can lighten skin, an example is Glutathione. Its a supplement even used by body builders and people with weak immune. Its side effect is lightening the skin. I even heard someone saying his sex stamina improved and lowered his blood pressure. Oh well thats life and we have different views.

because all of my life, i have been mistreated
and criticized for my skin-tone (dark) by my mother, whites and blacks
Posted by: macleata | 29/03/2009 at 21:34
Totally agree. People in foreign countries, my pals in Europe and California, would just kill to get a tan. Victoria Secret models ,SUPERMODELS, all of them have olive skin tones. Dark or medium skin RULES. Its the sexiest skin ever!! And gues what, it ages less...And makeup suits it so much better!!

Im white- have met an Indian girl
she has lighter coloured skin, and i think
its the most beautiful of all.
I think the reason why this lighter skin
colour is more attractive to us is beacuse
these indian girl appear more like us and less different.
I do agree with the skin lightening idea.
I know it can be seen as a racist idea, but
its a simple fact thats in peoples minds,
nothing can be done about it. Either
accept it or forget it.
P.S I love this indian girl, and i think
indian girls are the most beautiful of all.
