It's been pissing it down for weeks and the summer was in serious danger of going down as the worst washout ever. But this weekend along came Tales of the Jackalope, our boutique music festival / 24-hour party, and it brought back the sun and the fun and turned bummertime into summertime. We had 5,000 people partying under thousand-year-old oak trees in the green and pleasant grounds of a stately home called Kimberly Hall. As darkness fell, the amps were cranked up and everybody cut loose and had a good time. Check out the photoblog.

I really really really hope someone got in a lot of trouble for pulling Fucked Up off after 4 songs!!! Biggest disapointment of the summer!
Posted by: | 07/08/2007 at 21:05
esg and 2manydj's both weren't there. that is called false advertising and it is wrong.
gang gang dance didn't get to play becaue it got too late (wtf!?!?!?!? i thought this was a 24hr party)
fucked up played for 10 mins.
there was nowhere to buy decent food.
it was half empty.
at least it was suunny.

i want to see more photos of that day, was rather good
Posted by: Alex Meyers | 07/08/2007 at 22:14
Can I just say I've never seen such apalling festival production.
Ditto to the food thing...bollocks 'crumbs' - it may as well as been crumbs. How can you run out of food at 12 at night? Idiots.
I've never been to a festival where people go to the toilet to throw up.
Main system...rubbish, I had a conversation throughout the Dizzee set.

I had fun.

FUcked Up got shut down because the police got complaints about the noise.
Posted by: Jack Lopez | 08/08/2007 at 00:58
Complaints about the noise?? A) Its in the fuckin middle of nowhere, B)its a festival, and C) every other tent carried on going. Couldnt they just turn it down. Thats just bollocks.

Party of the summer. Wicked lineup, friendly people. Bring on TOTJ08!
Posted by: | 08/08/2007 at 11:09
I think everyone needs to chill out, it was never billed as a festival, but a all night party
I had a great time, the half shambolic production is typical of Vice and part of its charm and character
AMAZING PROGRAMMING
AMAZING WEATHER
AMAZING ATMOSPHERE
Surely thats all you need?
you guys need to stop moaning!
Posted by: Ed | 08/08/2007 at 11:12
I had the best time ever
party of the summer or stfu
Posted by: | 08/08/2007 at 11:13
fucked up most probably got shut down because often live music lisences can often only run till 3, then you can only have DJ's after
I would blame some OTHER bands who wouldnt get off stage when they were asked...meaning fucked up didnt have enough time left because of the over run caused
either way, the party was amazing! I had a fucking great time and I am looking forward to to next year
you guys may moan, but I bet in a few years time when this festival is massive and corporate, the guys who are moaning now will be the same people saying 'this festival isnt what it used to be'

TALES OF THE JACKALOPE WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF MY OTHERWISE BLAND SUMMER, FOOD WAS SHODDY, BUT THAT IS A SMALL PRICE TO PAY
that is all.
Posted by: SHOUTY CAPS LOCK MAN | 08/08/2007 at 11:20
so 2manydj's didn't show..... funny.... Justice didn't show at the first jackalope..... not that it stopped vice putting them down on the ads for this one.
Posted by: didn't / dont turn up | 08/08/2007 at 13:43
Fucked Up couldn't have been that loud. I mostly just thought they were boring and went to sleep in the corner of the tent.
The food situation was dire though. I went and asked that they had for veggies at about 2am, prime time for some Cauliflower Cheese or something. They answered "Peanuts". I think they meant literally.
As a music event I thought it was quite dissapointing. £50 for tickets and there wasn't even a booklet? This coupled with heavy drinking meant I missed a lot of the acts I wanted to see.
As a 24 hour session with amazing people and amazing weather, I thought it was spot on. Definatly saved the summer.

pulling fucked up off after 10 mins was even more fucked up than scheduling the fucking hours for their original slot.
shit I downed off 3 beers directly before they were supposed to come on in anticipation of one of the best bands ever and got an earful of trite indie fucking shite fuck the hours and fuck whoever fucked up the fucked up show.
all in all was a larf' though...

It was a fun day, but a few things kind of spoilt it. I was really looking forward to ESG and Gang Gang Dance above all else on the bill, so them cancelling/not being allowed to play was annoying, it was a real arse to actually find the festival(invest in some decent signposts!), there didn't seem to be tap water available (pretty illegal?) and there were some truly dreadful bands wasting everyones time (Cheeky Cheeky & The Nosebleeds, The Hours). Other than that, it was pretty good fun, and i'll be there next year, line-up permitting.
Posted by: Je Deteste | 09/08/2007 at 18:30
i can't believe people are complaining!
i had the fucking time of my life, despite missing a few bands i wanted to see.
all the haters should go play in traffic.
god bless vice. x

On the whole a good time apart from the bars which were a "rip off" plus you weren't allowed to take your own on the campsite so were basically being held to ransome. Sort it out for next year & I might return, £3.50 for a half pint plastic bottle of Stella, try getting one of those mobile Carlsberg Bars ive seen at a lot of events. Cheers !!
