Featuring present and ex-members of Sexy Kids, The Royal We, and Your Twenties, new London based three/four-piece Veronica Falls are very much in thrall with the better side of indie-pop. That side is but a sliver, yes, but it's still there. We caught up with singer Roxanne Clifford for a few basic questions.
VICE: Hello. How did Veronica Falls form?
Roxanne: Me and Patrick moved to London around the same time with an open mind. We were introduced to James at a Comet Gain show and very recently we recruited our friend Marion, who we're teaching to play the bass because we want her in the band so bad. Now Veronica Falls is complete.
What old bands are you guys into?
Are there any current bands you think we should know about but might not?
Our friends
The German Measles from Brooklyn make good-time songs with outrageous lyrics for when you're feeling blue. And I really like a band from Brighton called
The Light Sleepers.
THAT was an accident.
Illustrious American indie label Captured Tracks is in your top friends--are there plans for a release for them? Yes, we're doing a 12-inch EP with them, and it will probably include our song "Found Love in a Graveyard."
Veronica Falls - "Found Love in a Graveyard"
oh man. I've never felt so musically incompitant. I dont know any of the bands they just name dropped

jangly guitar and good vocals are too rarely put in the same package. this is lovely.
Posted by: heather | 06/07/2009 at 22:27
honestly, I'm just not a huge fan of female singers.

the german measles is a great name. their music is not bad either

this song is great! i like how the girl can't really sing all too well. gives the band/song character if you ask me.

Roky didn't write most of the elevators' lyrics. the psychedelic jug player, Tommy Hall did.. just sayin
Posted by: TonyFunfetti | 07/07/2009 at 15:46
Good. I like it. This band has to be a bunch of ghosts from the 60s cause they have an eerie past-like sound.
Posted by: marcus | 08/07/2009 at 21:57
pretty sure they mean roky's solo stuff, pretty crazy lyrics
Posted by: bingo | 12/07/2009 at 15:01
Roky's solo stuff isn't creepy or crazy...it's intense...you can enjoy it as the ultimate Horror Rock (which it IS!) or think of it as metaphor, and you can easily relate to it. Or both. Either way, it's amazing, and the man is a singing, guitar playing, songwriting, energetic genius who also has disarmingly beautiful love songs.

It is difficult to find a good female singer, of course there are many great female singers, I love rock and it is hard to find a a good band who has a female singer.

Hey Shitstorm
I don't undertsand how you can say that "the girl can't really sing all too well." I think she has a really good voice and her phrasing is spot on. I love the way she doesn't overplay her voice and she's very cool. If you'd ever seen her live I think you might have a differmt view.
But hey, we're all entitled to our opinions.
Cheers, dude
