As noted yesterday, Toronto celebrated Canada Day by having tons and tons of fetid, steaming garbage heaped all over the city. Do you know what it smells like over here? It smells like the puke of a dog that went on a buffet run through the back alleys of Tijuana. It gets in your mouth it's so bad. This trash strike is going on 11 days now, and people still smiled when we snapped photos of them standing in front of heaps of consumer waste.
This is John and Dennis, visiting from London. John pointed out that all this garbage is a health hazard. Thanks John! He also cautioned that we're going to get pigeons. At this point we're a little more worried about the Plague.
The situation isn't gross enough to stop Mitra from wearing her flip-flops.
Bruce is retired "and loving it!" We asked him how he felt about all the trash and he told us that Chinatown is normally about the same.
We stopped these guys after they took these bags out of a minivan. The guy in the red shirt told us that he hates the way Toronto is using public recreational areas for dumps. Then he said, "Let's go, there's garbage leaking on me." Then he dumped his garbage in this public recreational area:
This is Moss Park, a dump at Queen and Sherbourne downtown. It used to be a basketball court.

11 days is only 4 days longer that we usually go, i'll go 3 weeks sometimes without having to put garbage out, and my fuckin place doesn't look like our streets. people just love to waste and be assholes, not saying i'm not an asshole, but let's get real ppl

i live in toronto, it's not that bad yet. we a had a garbage strike a few yrs back it got bad out of hand. they just show the few worst possible places.

Mayor David Miller's basically the unions' pet, so we probably shouldn't expect this to be settled soon. He's waiting for an outside power like the province or an arbitrator to rescue him from having to actually confront his own supporters. In the meantime he's cracking down on illegal dumpers to help the union's position. Hey, Margaret, what exactly do you do for a living?

the thing that pisses me off the most is that most of the shit people are dumping is either 1) recyclable (and thus shouldn't be in the landfill) or 2) compostable (also not supposed to be in the dump)...just look at the bags those guys are carrying, they are looking like recyclables to me.
garbage is only picked up every 2 weeks anyways, so what the hell is the problem? we have 4 people living in my house and, although our recycling bin is overflowing, we've produced not nearly enough trash to warrant dragging it to a park to dump.
it's quite saddening really.
